Choosing Your Keepsake Materials

The clothing and fabrics you choose become the heart of your keepsake. Items with special meaning often create the most treasured keepsakes.

Garments to Avoid

Some materials are difficult to work with and may not be suitable for every keepsake.

Whenever possible, avoid:

  • Leather

  • Heavy canvas

  • Thick denim

  • Waterproof fabrics

  • Vinyl or plastic materials

  • Very bulky seams

  • Extremely fragile or deteriorated fabrics

If you're unsure whether your clothing can be used, simply ask! I'm happy to help determine the best option for your project.

Before Sending Your Clothing

✔ Wash all garments before sending.

✔ Leave items uncut whenever possible.

✔ Check pockets for personal belongings.

✔ Let me know if there are specific designs, embroidery, buttons, pockets, or other details you'd like included.

✔ If there are areas you do not want used, please mark them or include written instructions.

Clothing Requirements

Please send enough fabric for your requested keepsake.

As a general guide:

  • Memory Pillow – 1 adult shirt

  • Memory Bunny – 1–2 garments

  • Memory Bear – 1–2 garments

  • Memory Quilt – Multiple garments (varies by size)

If additional clothing is needed, I'll contact you before beginning your project.

I understand that the garments you send are often irreplaceable. I treat every item with the same care and respect I would give my own family's treasured belongings. From the moment your clothing arrives until your keepsake is complete, it will be handled thoughtfully and stored in a clean, smoke-free, pet-friendly sewing studio.

Because memory keepsakes are created from cherished clothing, some signs of wear may remain and become part of the finished piece. These unique characteristics often add to the authenticity and sentimental value of your keepsake.

If there are specific imperfections you would prefer not be included, please let me know before your keepsake is created. I will do my very best to accommodate your request while preserving the beauty and integrity of your design.
